New Level 2 Award for Roof Tiling Students
South Lanarkshire College and GMG Contractors are delighted with the success of the new apprenticeship programme for roofers specialising in new house construction. This partnership comprised of two organisations committed to the training and development of young people. We are working together to ensure that Roof Tilers across Scotland have the opportunity to gain professional qualifications directly related to their occupation.
This important development for the sector has been created through working closely with organisations such as SQA, NFRC, CITB and leading roofing contractors. Apprentices who are undertaking this training will gain an SVQ level 2 in Roof Tiling for New House Building. James Martin, Associate Principal for Construction at South Lanarkshire College recognised the benefit of this award for the industry “This award has been fully designed by industry for industry. We are absolutely delighted to be working so closely with GMG Contractors to be able to deliver this award for apprentices working in this sector. We would want to recognise and applaud their commitment to apprenticeship training.” GMG continues to be at the forefront of providing real opportunity in relation to apprenticeship training and has registered 24 apprentices in the last two years.
Pictured are some of the latest group of Students to undertake the award as they participate in the off-the-job training element. This off-the-job training is further complemented with live assessment in the workplace. John McGinley, Curriculum Manager for Trowel Crafts commented on the delivery methodology “The hybrid approach of in-college training and assessment and on-site assessment is definitely producing really good outcomes for these apprentices.”
