We recently welcomed third year pupils interested in pursuing a career in construction to our site in Pollok.
Students from St. Paul’s Secondary School joined us on Wednesday 17 April to witness our work in action, with our project for Glasgow City Council a perfect example of the whole construction journey. Having just hit the halfway mark in the project, pupils were able to see both the preparation stage and the finished product.
In November of last year, we announced our significant contract win with Glasgow City Council to install insulated render systems on a number of properties in the area. This involved taking every property’s unique situation and requirements into account when carrying out the upgrades. With that in mind, students were able to learn just how many trades need to come together to make a project possible – and in turn, showing the pupils just how many different routes there are into the industry.
At GMG, we care about the future – both with building the young workforce of tomorrow and ensuring their future through sustainable practice. This is another reason why we were delighted to show the third year students around the site. With the ambition for Glasgow to achieve net zero by 2030 firmly in mind, this project will play a part in helping our home city to achieve its sustainability objectives.
With GMG, all work is carried out to PAS 2035 standards with best sustainable practice at the forefront of operations. Implementing these External Wall Insulation (EWI) upgrades will mean improved energy efficiency for Glasgow residents, reducing costs and providing warmer, more comfortable homes. These upgrades are progressing well, and our expert team was able to discuss with the secondary pupils the importance of energy efficiency and the benefits of EWI with a real-life example.
A GMG representative said: “It was a joy to welcome St. Paul’s Secondary School pupils to our site in Pollok, together with representatives from Glasgow City Council and The Wise Group. They were all eager to learn and hear what our team had to say, and we can tell that they’ll be an asset to the construction industry should they pursue it as a career. Our work in Pollok is a prime example of the transformational effect EWI and energy efficiency can have. Our team has now completed the upgrades on a number of these properties, and it was an excellent learning opportunity for the students to see our process and discuss the commencement of a project through to its finished product with a real-life example. Our team also loved being able to answer their questions on the different routes into a career in construction and the varied options open to them in the industry.”
