Investing in our communities is essential when building a strong economy. We believe it is our responsibility to take an active role in nurturing our future local workforce. This is why GMG proudly supports Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
For more than 35 years, GMG has been dedicated to finding and developing apprentices, providing education and training that aligns with the operational realities of the construction industry.
Our recruitment policy carefully balances and combines new workers eager to learn, with experienced tradespeople who can pass on their skills and good practice. With 18 apprentices at the beginning of their careers, GMG works with the Construction Industry Training Board and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors to develop SVQ modules and National Occupational Standards. We also support individual paths, with two of our youngest quantity surveyors studying at Glasgow Caledonian University, one studying for a MSc and the other a BA (Hons) degree.
This year’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week, run by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) from the 6-10 March, is focused on unlocking potential by shining a light on the vital role apprenticeships play in supporting people and the economy.
“We are proud to support Scottish Apprenticeship Week and to showcase the important role that apprenticeships play in the construction industry. We believe every young person has the ability to flourish in this industry and we strive to support them in every way to help them do exactly that,” said Gerry McGinn, CEO of GMG Contractors.
Almost all our apprentices become tradespeople and this commitment saw us achieving Investors in Young People Platinum accreditation in 2022.
