Skills Academy pupils to GMG apprentices

Published: 1 October 2019

Over the summer of 2019, two 15-year-old Skills Academy North Lanarkshire pupils from Airdrie completed work experience with GMG on a day-release basis, two days per week.

Although the young people could not work at height in this period due to their age, they were hard at work on the ground.

They were also made to understand the rudiments of how our high-level work is always done professionally, with a focus on Health and Safety.

The Skills Academy is “a secondary facility focused on developing employability skills” as well as getting pupils “work-ready to enter a career suited to their interests, needs and aspirations”.

At the end of the summer, both pupils were offered full-time apprenticeships with GMG.

One of the pupils, Joe Travers (pictured above), was recognised by his teachers for showing great commitment, hard work and great attendance. This resulted in Joe receiving the Pupil of the Year at the annual award ceremony in the Skills Academy. Everyone at GMG would like to congratulate Joe on this great achievement and look forward to coaching him through IIYP (Investors in Young People) to progress in his career.
