GMG are continuing to lead the way as ambassadors for young people facing barriers to employment with their latest accreditation by Investors In Young People.
This marks out the firm as an employer of choice that places emphasis on positive pathways and outcomes for younger people in the workplace, resulting in a sustainable talent pool for the future.
GMG were the first construction company in Scotland to gain recognition from IIYP – now rebranded as Remarkable – with a three-year accreditation in 2014, as result of their inspirational commitment to improving the lives of people in the local community and determination to tackle youth unemployment.
Shortly after 2014’s accolade, the company were given the Gold Award when it was introduced during the three-year cycle in 2015 – and in 2017, they retained the gold standard for the next 36 months.
In September 2020, they were again recognised and now they are working in conjunction with Remarkable to realise their ambition of achieving the all-new Platinum status.
Company CEO Gerry McGinn said: “Our commitment to training and development, including modern and adult apprenticeships, remains strong.
“We are proud to be investing in and creating tomorrow’s construction workers today.”
Nicola Dillon, Remarkable Specialist, was quick to praise the GMG ethos and the company’s achievements.
She said: “GMG are industry ambassadors for their continuous commitment to attract, recruit, develop and retain young people, especially those who face barriers to work.
“GMG continue to demonstrate high-performing youth employment practices and were recognised for their outstanding investment as the first construction company in Scotland to achieve Investors in Young People accreditation in 2014 and then further recognised through achieving Gold accreditation in 2017 and 2020.
“They are on a journey of continuous improvement, which makes them a truly inspiring organisation for others to follow their lead.
“Attaining Investors In Young People is an outstanding achievement for any organisation. It demonstrates a culture that places young people at the heart of an organisation and as an employer of choice for young people seeking employment.”
