This International Women’s Day we would like to celebrate women in construction in general and women at GMG in particular.
We are proud that 72% of women who work at GMG have worked here for over five years. Of our office and management staff, 44% are women and two of our young female employees have progressed from trainee positions to graduate positions in the last year.
We believe in creating a supportive working environment for all our staff and that means being sensitive to the different needs of different people.
We are aware that construction is seen as a male-dominated industry and we are dedicated to helping to change this stereotype, for the benefit of everyone working in this area.
Real change only happens when we all work together towards a common goal, so we were pleased to read that The House of Commons Administration Committee heard from representatives from the Women into Construction organisation, and those involved in the parliamentary estates earlier this week.
Given that the committee indicated an interest in role-modelling best practice, both to influence the supply chain and to build on its offer for its own staff, we are keen to see this in action and will follow developments closely.
