GMG start on flagship care village

GMG are excited to be involved in the creation of a ground-breaking new care village that will provide a variety of services to the community it will serve.

The flagship Methil Care Village in Fife – which is thought to be the first local authority project of its kind in Scotland – brings together the youngest and oldest in society.

GMG have secured the £500,000 roofing and rendering contract from Fife Council.

Methil Care Village – situated in the grounds of the former Kirkland High School – will involve the creation of a new, 36-bedroom care home in the same building as a children’s nursery and it will include a community café where young people and elderly residents can mix.

It will also involve the construction of 35 extra-care bungalows, where older people can live independently but benefit from the home’s facilities.

GMG Commercial Manager Paul O”Hare said: “We are experienced in completing both new-build projects and public works, and because this project uniquely combines the two, it allows us to demonstrate our skills and be part of something with a huge community benefit.

“The Methil Care Village is a flagship development and it demonstrates the council’s commitment to invest in their community.”

The creation of Methil Village is the first part of the second phase of Fife Council’s care home replacement programme.

A spokesman said: “Our vision is to facilitate the provision of high-quality care services within the Methil area that allows people to live, play and connect as part of one shared community.

“The care home and extra care housing will provide sustainable, comfortable and secure residential care within the community, according to individuals’ specific needs.”
