A MAJOR contract to repair and upgrade numerous local authority homes across North Lanarkshire has been secured by GMG.
The five-year programme of works will improve the residential properties in Cleland, Shotts, Motherwell, Bellshill and other locations and comes at a cost of £2million per annum.
It will also provide continued employment for the company’s 40 apprentices, many of whom are North Lanarkshire-based, and it will give them opportunities to complete their training.
The project will involve adding a layer of external wall insulation material to the homes, improving thermal efficiency and reducing heat loss. This insulation will be finished with a new external render coating, which will enhance the aesthetics of the homes.
Roof replacement will ensure that the homes remain watertight for decades to come, and roof line and rainwater installations will add to the overall finished appearance by bringing the homes’ external features up to date
There will also be Fosroc repairs to concrete and the installation of solar photovoltaic panels to provide free electricity to residents.
Householders will notice a significant improvement of the energy efficiency of their homes, thanks to the new external wall insulation and the installation of the photovoltaic cells to the roofs of the properties.
The contract has been awarded to GMG under North Lanarkshire Council’s Re-roofing and Render Framework 2021-2025 and is similar to the programme of works carried out recently by the company for Argyll Community Housing Association in Dunoon.
GMG will draw on their considerable expertise and experience of installing external wall insulation and solar panels to Government and industry-recognised standards and specifications. GMG are an MCS approved installer and are PAS 2030:219 accredited.
Gary McGinn, who is heading up the project, said: “This will be an exciting, yet challenging, project to take on – due to the amount of units awarded to GMG.
“We are enjoying the fast-paced work and watching complete transformations weekly in the NLC framework.
“This project also gives me a huge sense of pride, as we know that during the work we are helping the local community with energy efficiency within their homes.”
The project follows the successful completion of similar works carried out by GMG for North Lanarkshire Council between 2017 and 2020 at numerous locations, including Airdrie, Rawyards, Holehills, Coltness and Pather.
