Constructing positive relationships with the community

Published: 23 February 2024

Our team was thrilled to meet residents at a recent event organised by West Lothian Council. Part of an outreach effort by the council, the aim was to ensure its residents were informed of upcoming improvement works to their homes as part of the council’s External Wall Insulation (EWI) project for 2024.

Just before the new year, we announced our partnership with West Lothian Council as part of this project. Our Commercial Manager, Site Manager and Tenant Liaison Officer all attended, where they had the opportunity to chat face-to-face with those affected about the benefits of the works to upgrade the buildings, as well as answer any questions residents had.

The GMG team is keen to highlight the improved energy efficiency that will result from the project, meaning that residents’ bills will be reduced. Given the continuing cost of living crisis and fuel poverty rates, this news was very well received.

We are also able to show an example build-up of EWI materials and explain in further detail the system process.

Building positive relationships

A GMG representative said: “We loved meeting West Lothian residents to discuss our upcoming work. Making connections and building relationships are key to the ongoing success of our projects. We want residents to be familiar with the friendly faces who they will see around their neighbourhood, it just promotes a positive experience for all stakeholders.”

Making connections and relationships within the working area is very important to GMG. It is essential that the residents are familiar and comfortable with the friendly faces who will be working in their area, promoting positive experiences for all stakeholders.

The EWI Improvements Programme, attained through the Procurement for Housing (PfH) Capital Works And Associated Services Dynamic Purchasing System as implemented by West Lothian Council, will draw on our contractors’ diverse experience across roofing, electrical, joinery, Audio-Visual (AV) and asbestos works.

The installation of loft insulation, external wall insulation and mechanical ventilation will ensure the homes are more energy efficient, with all our retrofitting works carried out to PAS 2035 standards. Gas works will also be undertaken, with our contractors working to accommodate and enable the exterior of the building, and roughcasting work and roof and decoration upgrades will give the homes a new, fresher aesthetic.
