GMG along with the support of HSS hire were proud and honoured to be able to supply portable power for the annual Byte Night sleep out.
Byte Night is Action for Children’s national sleep-out fundraising event each October when hundreds of like-minded people from the technology and business arena give up their beds for one night to help change the lives of vulnerable young people supported by the charity.
It began in 1998 when 30 people slept out in London and raised £35,000. Since then, Byte Night has grown to 11 UK locations with over 1200 people sleeping out in 2019.
It’s the UK’s longest running corporate sleep-out and has raised over £12 million for the charity’s nationwide projects that help prevent youth homelessness.
Over 150 people slept out in Charlotte Square Gardens in Edinburgh and Blythswood Square Gardens in Glasgow on October 4, with teams from organisations including NHS24, CBRE, Edinburgh Airport, Version 1, Turner & Townsend, Modulr Finance, Mudano, Harvey Nash, Leidos and PWC among others.
These big-hearted volunteers joined over 1,100 others simultaneously sleeping out across 11 locations up and down the UK in campaign to raise £1million UK-wide in support of Action for Children youth homelessness services, including Prep for Life Housing Service in Alexandria, Canal Housing Service in Kirkintilloch and New Horizons in Haddington to name just a few.
Sleepers had the chance to have some hearty food, meet some of the young people Action for Children supports and take part in an auction, raffle and quiz before grabbing their sleeping bags and spending a night under the stars.
In the morning they were wakened with a warm breakfast roll and a cup of coffee before heading off to the comfort and warmth of their own home and bed.
Over 126,000 young people in UK are homeless every year, which is unacceptable. And half of the adults who are homeless now were homeless for the first time before they were 21, which is why it’s so important we provide support early, before things get worse.
Action for Children want every child to have a safe and happy childhood but too many young people are falling into homelessness, which leaves lasting scars on their mental health, education and relationships with friends and family.
