Project Complete: Camelon Crescent, Blantyre – Carbon Reduction, through construction

Project Overview

The Camelon Crescent project, completed in February 2025, successfully enhanced housing in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire. Commissioned by South Lanarkshire Council, this initiative upgraded five identical flatted blocks to improve energy efficiency, safety, and aesthetics. 

Scope of Works

The project involved extensive refurbishment and modernisation to improve the safety, comfort, and efficiency of the buildings. A major success of this project was its focus on carbon reduction through construction. Energy-efficient measures such as EWI, new heat retaining roofs, upgraded windows and doors contribute to lower heating demands and a reduced carbon footprint for residents. The scope of works included:

• Re-roofing to ensure long-term durability and protection from the elements.
• Roofline improvements, including the installation of new fascia, soffits, and guttering.
• External Wall Insulation (EWI) featuring Rockwool systems to enhance energy efficiency and thermal performance.
• Window and door replacements for better insulation, security, and aesthetic appeal.
• Close metal doors and door entry systems for improved safety and controlled access.
• Close redecoration to refresh and modernise communal areas.
• Balustrade removal and reinstatement to meet current safety standards.
• Extensive specialist concrete repairs to restore structural integrity.
• Application of liquid plastics to all balconies for waterproofing and enhanced longevity.

Project Duration

The project ran from August 2024 to February 2025. Despite the challenges of a winter schedule in the project, the team ensured that the site was cleared and disruption minimised during the Christmas break. Residents enjoyed a clean and safe environment throughout the festive period. The project met its timeline with thanks to the dedication and hard work of the entire team.
